James Daniel Smith is the founder of KOS, Inc. A Smyrna, Georgia native, James is an Army veteran, former firefighter, paramedic, and was trained in carpentry during his time in the military.

After serving in Iraq with the Army National Guard, James began his career in public safety with the Smyrna Fire Department, where he quickly rose through the ranks and served as a lieutenant and paramedic. In 2015, he purchased one of the oldest continually operating businesses in Smyrna, the feed store, and revitalized it to become a staple in the community. It was in the carpentry shop at the feed store that KOS, Inc. first started.

In the winter of 2021 during county school closures, James opened his carpentry shop to young people in the community, providing a safe and educational place for them to learn the basics of carpentry over six weeks. This experience helped James to make the connections necessary to launch KOS, Inc. in the fall of 2021.
